I joined politics to make a difference in society. I built myself up in the Malaysia that had hope and opportunity. Everything I have is because of my country, and joining politics was my way of giving back and helping my nation grow. Under the last years of the previous administration, I fought to remove the ridiculous race-based policies the BN government seemed to be stuck in. Worse, I saw religion increasingly being used and abused without thought at the damage it was causing our nation. I saw the corruption of the administrative regime eroding the very soul and fabric of this great country even to contest in a single seat. It is for those reasons I took the decision to leave BN before the May 9th General Election and support the Pakatan Harapan coalition. Some leaders in my party had already sold their soul and fought me. I stood my ground. And I am proud I did. No one really knows Kayveas. Rumors and innuendos have been the currency my detractors have used. But they have failed because I am still here.
When I announced my intention to run for the Cameron Highlands seat it is because this is my home. This is the district where I was born. And this is where I have spent years helping the various communities that makeup Cameron Highlands. I will regardless of what happens after this continue to help the people of Cameron Highlands.
But today let me say this clearly so that there is no room for misinterpretation. I am a supporter of Tun Mahathir Mohammad and Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. It is the strength and wisdom of The Prime Minister that will take us through the damage of the long old regime. And it is the strength and vision of the Prime Minister-Designate that will see us move forward to a bright future. A future for all Malaysians, united and strong. So with that and with “my loyal, long-standing LEGITIMATE myPPP leaders and members” and me, I hereby announce … that I will not be running as a candidate in this election. I will be openly and aggressively supporting Pakatan Harapan’s candidate. They can count on us to stand with them and bring all our support to the ballot box for them. Pakatan Harapan is what Cameron Highlands needs to see the undone changes. Their name says it all. The Coalition of Hope. Hope is what will defeat the cynicism and domineering undemocratic ways of BN. Thank you.
